Hello! My name is Rebecca LaRue! If you're reading this, I assume I am your 11th grade English teacher this year.
I teach 11th grade English at Heritage High School. I have lived in Newport News (or around there) for 8 years, but I am originally from Manassas, VA. I went to Christopher Newport University and earned my Bachelor's degree in English Language Arts, and then went back for more and earned my Master's degree in Teaching.
I firmly believe that education is the root of all change. If you can read, write, and explain yourself, you can change the world. I got into education because I really want to make the world a better place. I think that everyone has the potential to make a great impact on history; its up to you to find how. I decided that I was called to teach people how to use language to change the world around them.
I have always loved to read and write. (In fact, one of my life goals is to publish a novel.) I am constantly reading books in several different genres. Right now, I am on a science-fiction binge. Some of my favorite books are the Red Rising series, the Dresden Files, the Throne of Glass series, and the Court of Thorns and Roses series. I love how language can offer an escape and a way to enhance the world around you.
At home, I have a husband and a dog. My husband works in law and my dog works in trying to get food from anyone he meets.
I look forward to working with each and every one of my students this year! I am very excited to hit the ground running, and really get into English.
